Resell partly passed through QR codes on Nike products

Around the middle of this year there will be QR codes on the tab of all Nike shoes and the same QR code will be on the box of Nike products.

The QR code is scannable for customers and they can check whether the product is original. They can do this with a smartphone.

With the same QR code, Nike will probably be able to see through which channel/official dealer the shoes are sold. Backdooring will then largely over. Backdooring means that an official dealer does not sell an exclusive release in the store, but that the shoes go to a reseller.

The parallel trade in Nike is then also largely over. By parallel trade we mean that Nike products are sold by official dealers to unofficial stores and companies.

It has not yet been officially confirmed, but most likely the QR codes will be introduced this year.

Update on 8th April 2019
Nike is started with testing QR codes on products and have already released some products with the QR code on the packaging. It is for sure that Nike will release all products with QR codes as of July 1, 2019. The QR codes are not usable for customers, but Nike will exactly see which official dealer got delivered the shoe. It is not known yet if the QR code only will be on packaging or also on the product itself. Further more, there will be as of 1 July, 2019 chips inside the Nike products. Thanks to this chip, Nike will directly note if it is a fake product or original product. It is also unkown if this will be applied first in the Benelux or directly in whole Europe. These changes will have a big impact on the Nike trade.
